Counting Palliser Trees

Today the students counted how many trees are in Palliser's schoolyard. We split the class in three different groups. Each group used a different strategy to count. Group 1 counted by 1 and ended up with the number 186. Group 2 counted by 2s and ended up with the number 187. Group 3 put an orange marker ever 10 trees and counted by 10s. They ended up with the number 196. Afterwards, the class agreed that counting by 10s with the markers helped avoid losing count, which means that group 3 probably has the best answer.
