Nature can help us understand how to solve additions with large numbers. Students used leaves to represent ones and sticks to represent tens. When adding up their two multiple digits numbers, they transformed every group of 10 leaves into a stick. At the end they counted the sticks to find how many tens they had. They then counted the leaves to find how many ones. This helps us understand how regrouping works in additions.
