3D Objects Hunt

We started our unit on 3D objects (prisms, pyramids, cubes, cones, cylinders, and spheres). To familiarize ourselves with the objects and terms associated with them, we went on two hunts: one in the classroom and one at the park during nature class. Our big question: Can we find these shapes in our environment? We sure can because many check marks quickly covered the 3D objects reference sheet handed out on both occasions.

Was it easier to find them in a constructed environment like the classroom or in nature? Students were split almost in the middle with that one. Snow sure helped at the park because we can shape it in so many ways. That was a nice way to build on our previous nature class where we explored the capacity of snow to stick together in all sorts of shapes when the air and soil are above freezing temperatures. Many students created snow spheres and even snow prisms to help with the hunt.

A great way to build on these experiences would be to have a third 3D objects hunt at home over the weekend. Can you find them all in your home?
